No child left inside: Congressman wants kids out of classroom, into nature
http://www.hometownannapolis.com/cgi-bin/read/2007/07_17-29/TOP

I am a lucky boy. My mom became a teacher so she could take us camping every summer for a month.
I was able to wander off into the wild, jump in rivers, climb trees, scamper up hills,
explore caves and mineshafts, look at bugs, find hidden treasures, observe and do.
My mom was a lucky girl. Her parents took her camping every summer all across America in a jeep for 6 weeks.
Camping is the BEST gift you can give kids. Adopt some kids: even if just for a camping trip.
If humans are allowed to enjoy nature, they are more likely to protect it.

Roaming Hookerfest: Outdoor Video Projection Roaming the Streets of San Francisco
The Roaming Hookerfest is a traveling outdoor caravan of sex workers
bringing the films to the street. This first-ever Roaming Hookerfest
was developed by Festival co-director, Erica Berman (AKA Fabulous).
Fabulous wanted the festival to reach out past the usual crowds so
she created this guerilla art event. On Friday night of the festival
we will be driving a movie van with films and safer sex materials to
alleyways throughout San Francisco. We will be showing a half hour of
excerpts and short films highlighting the festival. We will post the
locations and the list of movies at our site at:
http://www.sexworkerfest.com/RoamingHookerFest/
Meet us at 16th and Folsom at 9 PM for an elegant soiree on the
streets. Dress up or dress down! Join our caravan afterwards for a
party at Lipo Lounge, Red Lit Dance Nite with DJ Bent in Chinatown.
Drink, eat Chinese food and discuss 'sex worker sinema' with sex
workers from around the country.
The movies we will screen focus on entertainment for sex workers on
the street including The Aphrodite Project by Norene Leddy which
presents magical hooker platforms, designed for the street hookers of
the future, and Jyanta Meetei's Street Survivor a precious portrait
of a Taiwanese street hooker, her time and the cop who arrested her.
film screenings free, after party $5 (no one turned away)

Welcome to Gratitude.... As our lives unfold, day by day, true moments of
cosmic bliss make their graces known in the smallest of details.
It might be in a childs laughter, in a ray of sunshine,
in a breath of fresh air, in the smile of a friend,

in the taste of something yummy,
in the joy of people loving life.
 Together.
On the 21st of July, we are opening the doors to
many, many of these beautiful moments.
Please join us for Gratitude in Golden Gate Park,
and bring your friends, your drums, your toys,

your Selves.
On July 21st, in Lindley Meadow, we will gather to play,
commune and celebrate. We are coming together to
send a big warm loving Thank You to the Source,
for all of the blessings that are already here with us.

On MAKER's Culture: A Conversation Sat July 21 McBean Theater, 3pm
From the rise of Burning Man to the recent emergence of MAKE magazine, maker's culture—the do-it-yourself spirit of making, hacking, crafting, and designing things—has long been part of the Bay Area. What are the ethos, mythology, and practices of maker's culture? Join the conversation with some Do-It-Yourself community vanguards: art curator LadyBee of Burning Man, editor Dale Dougherty of MAKE magazine, and sound artist/composer Krystyna Bobrowski.

Film Night in the Park: Sixteen Candles Saturday, July 21, 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Dolores Park 19th St / 20th St. and Dolores St San Francisco, Ca
Presented by The San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation
1984 This funny, unpretentious film marked writer John Hughes's first time out as a director. The premise is ordinary, but the film is distinguished by funny gags and excellent performances by Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. Samantha (Ringwald) is a high-school sophomore about to turn 16, and her life is dominated by her love for Jake (Michael Schoeffling), a senior and the school heartthrob. In turn, she is followed around by Ted (Hall), a younger boy who is acknowledged to be a nerd. Nothing seems to be going right for Samantha.
Her older sister is about to be married, and her parents are overlooking Samantha's birthday, a major moment in her young life. Her grandparents move into her room, and her relationship with her smart-alecky brother (Justin Henry) gets tense. Simultaneously, Samantha has to be kind and caring to Long Duk Dong (Gedde Watanabe), a loony but sweet Japanese exchange student staying at her home. The situations are predictable, but Hughes saves them from being cliches with his attention to detail. Hall and Ringwald became part of the Hollywood "Brat Pack" with this film, and Hughes emerged as a hot director.

Become an Extraordinary Lover - For Men who Love Women
Sunday, July 22, 2007 more on this date 9:30 AM
There is nothing more arousing than watching a woman you are making love to writhe and moan with delight. However, there are very few places to get practical, explicit, and straightforward advice about what turns women on.
In this hands-on, one-day workshop, Danielle and Celeste will teach you everything from the arts of romance and seduction to advanced pleasure techniques. They will teach you to read women's non-verbal cues, to elicit information about her secret sexual desires, and to keep her coming back for more.
You will have the opportunity to practice different kinds of touch on a woman, understand her responses, and receive helpful feedback. The facilitators will cover how to give pleasure during a sexual encounter and explore special oral techniques.
The next workshop will take place on Sunday, July 22nd, 9:30am-5:30pm in San Francisco
Tuition is $395. Bring a friend and get $50 off of the original price!
To register for the workshop go to
http://www.celesteanddanielle.com/workshopMen.html
For questions call Celeste at (415) 336-3258.

SEX ON WHEELS:Bike Tour/Street Theater traces Sex-Worker History
San Francisco is home to the most politically active community of sex workers in the world, having given rise to C.O.Y.O.T.E., the Sex Worker's Outreach Project, The St. James Infirmary, and the Lusty Lady Co-op. Sex on Wheels is a bicycle tour that traces the cultural history of this community of gold-diggin', ass-whuppin', shit-startin' sex workers, from the Gold Rush of 1848 to the present day.
This year's tour, co-presented by the Sex Worker's Film and Arts Festival and the SF Bike Coalition, features live, costumed docents representing such characters as Chilean and Chinese prostitutes of the gold rush period, queer street youth activists from the 1960s, a hooker/female supremacist/would-be assassin, and the strippers of today's Lusty Lady. Think Colonial Williamsburg - but with whores!

Abundance League "Food Edition" 7/26 @ 6pm
Food! Delicious, nourishing, beautiful food! In and of itself, it's essential
to life and a basic pleasure. But as we've all undoubtedly experienced,
it has a special power to bring people together. The meal as a social
ritual seems to be part of all cultures.
This month we explore food as a social technology. Neal Gorenflo
will share his experience hosting simple dinner parties with an
emphasis on connection rather than Martha Stewartesque ostentation.
You don't have to bend over backwards to entertain! In fact, that
might just get in the way of building community.
Neal will bring a couple of his favorite easy-but-healthy dishes to share
and will facilitate a discussion about entertaining in a sensible, sustainable
way, a way that makes it more likely you'll bring your friends together
again and again. Feel free to bring your favorite dish or recipe as well.
And as always, please come prepared to tell us about your passions,
discuss your needs, and share your gifts so that members of the community
can support each other in building the lives we want to live.
What: The Abundance League Monthly Gathering
When: Thursday, July 26th, 6:00-10:00pm
Where: Doris and Harald's place

Call 415.861.6445 or 415.867.0429 if you have trouble finding the meeting
AGENDA 6:00 - 6:30 - mingle
6:30 - 7:15 - member announcements
7:15 - 7:30 - break, nosh, mingle, exchange support
7:30 - 8:30 - presentation
8:30 - 10:00 nosh, mingle, exchange support, clean up
